The suspended algae in the pond causes the green water and as it passes through one of the pond ultra violet clarifiers on the way to the filter they are made to clump together (flocculate) by the UV light. This makes the clumps of algae big enough for a pond filter to trap them in its media allowing them to be digested by the good bacteria contained in the pond filter.
