Ammonium Filter Medium of Velda has a number of striking properties, which makes it exceptionally suitable as filter medium for pond water. It is a ceramic material, to which an ample quantity of zeolite has been added. The material consists for over 40% of partly very fine pores. It is just these micro pores and besides the special composition with zeolite, which are capable to absorb ammonium or ammonia, as the case may be, in an early stage.

The effective adhesive surface for bacterial development for the present packing is over 800 m². The hexagonal tunnel structure of the material provides an optimum flow rate and consequently there will always be enough oxygen. In this way Ammonium Filter Medium can be used efficiently and protractedly in both pressure filters and in biologically active filters. Owing to the hexagonal tunnel structure the Nitrate Filter Medium takes care that there will always be sufficient high oxygen zones. Besides, there are also zones with lack of oxygen, so that besides aerobe bacteria also anaerobe ones can develop. Nitrate Filter Medium can be used efficiently and protractedly in both pressure filters and in biologically active filters.

Filtration of the pond water can be effected both mechanically and biologically. The action of mechanical filtration is based on removal of organic and inorganic dirt particles as well as of odours and colourings. The principle of biological filtration is to achieve better and quicker conversion of organic constituents by means of micro-organisms. Filter wadding and filter carbon materials of Velda ensure excellent water filtration.

Filter materials determine the quality of a filter!

Not the filter but the filter materials determine the quality of filtration. Mechanical filter material stops dirt but they can not decompose waste materials. Biological filter materials convert waste materials, however, they do not stop dirt. For this reason a combination usually is the thing to do. Below you find examples of such combination:

1. Wadding or filter foam, which removes large dirt particles;
2. Active pond carbon, which absorbs odours and colourings;
3. Excipient for the adherence of micro-organisms, such as Ammonium or Nitrate Filter Medium
